I’ve had an “Application has failed to launch” error after installing Elements on 3 new systems recently. Nikon has released a temporary fix until they update the installer. You can find the fix on my resources page or here is the direct download.

The error is acually “Application failed to initialize”. This is caused by the Microsoft Visual C Redistibutables being either corrupt or incomplete and Windows reporting that they are already installed. The NIS installer will not overwrite these because it could adversally affect other programs that may use the VC Redistibutables or the ones in the installer may be older than what is being reported.
