Flash Memory for Imaging?

This article describes a novel approach to acquiring an image digitally: use flash memory! Some of the limitations described in the article are the lack of dynamic range (only binary data is acquired) however the small size of flash memory may enable a gradient of optical densities to be laid down on an array of pixels, that are then used to form an image. Another byproduct of this would be the ability to lay down a spectral mask on a grouping of pixels, thereby creating a hyperspectral detector!
